Michael Porter Jr. of the Denver Nuggets recently revisited the team's 2023 NBA championship run, sharing his thoughts on their Finals matchup against the Miami Heat. Notably, Porter believes their path to victory was paved by facing Miami instead of the Boston Celtics.

On "The Kenny Beecham Podcast," Porter revealed that the Nuggets preferred Miami as their Finals opponent. He boldly stated that the Heat, especially without Tyler Herro, were a more manageable matchup than the Celtics.

"We knew we had the matchup versus the Heat," Porter said. "Kinda when they were playing the Celtics, we felt like we matched up a little better with the Heat than the Celtics. The Celtics would've been a tough series. Prolly would've gone six, seven games. But against Miami, we were like 'Man we can get them boys up outta here.'"

While Denver ultimately triumphed over Miami in five games, it's debatable whether the Heat were truly an "easy" matchup. Bam Adebayo and Jimmy Butler kept the games close, and role players like Max Strus and Gabe Vincent contributed significantly. Denver's victory was hard-fought, with no blowout leads in sight.

Despite Porter's opinion, the 2023 NBA Finals remain a testament to the Nuggets' resilience and championship-caliber talent. Nikola Jokic and Jamal Murray's dominant performances, coupled with timely contributions from the supporting cast, ultimately secured Denver's first-ever NBA title.
